Letter to Parents

Due to construction and work on the heating and air conditioning units, we will not be able to use Magruder for this summer. I am truly excited to hold the camp this year at two great facilities in Sandy Spring Friends School and Washington Christian Academy in Olney. We will again have a very experienced staff of high school and college athletes, supervised by adult teachers and coaches. I will continue to emphasize in my lectures and in small group instruction the importance of good sportsmanship and being a team player. The life skills discussions that I integrate into our daily camp schedule will hopefully help your child leave with the camp with more than improved basketball ability. Sports are a great way for children’s self esteem to improve- and this is not just by excelling at the sport- it is by being part of a team and having a positive, caring coach.

Campers come to us in the summer with all different skill levels and experience. Some will move on to be JV and varsity players (in a variety of sports) but many others hopefully will learn that basketball can be a lifetime activity to share with friends and family. As a teacher and parent I have exposed my students and four children to different sports, taught them the fundamentals and tried to make it exciting for them. It is up to them to decide if they want to make the sacrifice of time to excel- parental pressure can take the fun out of any sport.

Rosemary is a pediatric nurse and will work to assure that we have a safe environment for your child. Please do not hesitate to call either of us with any questions.

Sincerely,

Dan Harwood
